The Merrimack Valley YMCA’s “Reach Out For Youth” volunteer committee has been busy planning the 2006 campaign. The committee held a kick-off breakfast today at the Methuen YMCA, hosting volunteers and community leaders.

Katie Sanchez, a fifth grade student at the Lawrence Family Development Charter School, opened the event by singing “What I’ve Been Looking For.” She was accompanied by Amy Baione, the YMCA’s Music Clubhouse Director, on keyboard. Miss Sanchez has been an active participant at the YMCA’s Music Clubhouse since it opened its doors one year ago. “Katie is one of our greatest ambassadors. She has recruited dozens of friends and students since she joined,” Ms. Baione said.

The goal for the YMCA’s 2006 campaign is $366,000. Last year, the “Reach Out for Youth” campaign raised more than $250,000 through individual giving and special events to provide financial assistance to nearly 2,000 children and families in need. These annual fund dollars provide financial assistance to needy and deserving children and families residing in the Greater Lawrence community to participate in YMCA programs. The goal of the “Reach Out For Youth” program is to assure that no one is turned away from the YMCA for inability to pay.
