On Sunday, February 12, Lawrence Pop Warner Football & Cheer Inc.
held its 2006 awards banquet at Knights of Columbus, located a 1
Market Street, in Lawrence, and more than 250 children, players
and cheerleaders, plus their parents filled the hall.
Lawrence Pop Warner originated in the city in 1964. Typically,
by the end of May, three months before the season even opens, many
teams are already full and a waiting list is in place. “I have
been getting phone calls all winter with parents inquiring about
registration for their children,” says L.P.W. Treasurer Karen
Elwell. “We are fortunate to have dedicated volunteers within our
program who are there only for the kids, people sense that and
want to be part of what we do, and we are truly blessed by them
all.”
Pop Warner is the largest organized youth football and
cheerleading organization in the world. Many NFL stars began their
career as youngsters in their local Pop Warner.
