Batista Decartes is touring different cities across the country
promoting his books and talking to school children about the
importance of using the imagination, and was invited to come to
Lawrence by city authorities. During his visit, Batista has
visited 5 middle schools and made 3 presentations at Lawrence High
School.

Batista was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on
February 19, 1971 where he attended Nuevo Horizonte High School.
He made his Mayor League professional debut on April 11, 1992.
Over his career, Batista has played for seven teams and has been
utilized as both, starter and reliever. Batista is 35 years old,
6.1’, and weights 197Lbs.
Aside from being a baseball player, Batista is known for his love
of poetry and has published two books, one of poetry, Sentimientos
en Negro y Blanco (Feelings in Black and White) and recently,
Avenger of Blood, a plot where real facts and evidences face
faith.
The novel was released in Santo Domingo on January 25, 2006, and
on February 10 in Puerto Rico where it has had great success in
very few months. The proceeds of his books are to benefit the
Miguel Batista Foundation in the Dominican Republic, which
provides needy children of his hometown with transportation and
resources to attend school and participate in recreational
activities.
