The Ansin Family donated $2 million dollars last week to help in the fundraising efforts of the Lawrence Boys and Girls Club for their new center. With that, we saw a display of selflessness and good will but most importantly, someone truly deserving was honored.

Robert Ansin could have dedicated the building to his father or given it the family name but to everyone’s delight, he chose Stephen J. Kelley.

Kelley dedicated 42 years of his life to the Boys and Girls Club. He even postponed having his own children until recently focusing all of his attention on Lawrence children’s needs. In Stephen Kelley they could find from a shoulder to cry on to advice or even a shelter. His family knew this and he was fortunate to marry Sonya who also understood him.

The Ansin Family has shown us what really matters in life. It’s nice being able to help and rescue an organization that does so much for our future but that work could never be done without the people working there: people like Stephen J. Kelley.
Congratulations to both of them.
