Three Northern Essex Community College employees, Donna Ashbrook
of Haverhill, Xavier Pelaez of Byfield, and Ramon Suero of North
Andover recently received the college’s Employee Performance
Recognition Award.
Employees are selected each quarter based on recommendations
from superiors and co-workers. Recipients receive a $100
certificate to the restaurant or mall of their choice.
Ashbrook who has worked as an administrative assistant in NECC’s
Center for Business and Industry for more than five years, was
nominated by a number of her co-workers. They wrote “Donna has
been the model employee since she joined NECC. Not only is her
work completed effectively and efficiently, but the added bonus of
her being customer-oriented is a model that everyone in the
college can adopt. Donna consistently demonstrates great
dedication to her complex and demanding job.”
Career Development Counselor Xavier Pelaez, who has worked at
Northern Essex for over three years, was nominated by co-workers
from the Lawrence campus. They praised him for his dedication to
NECC students and the programs and services that empower them.
They wrote, “...He is truly dedicated to helping students realize
their potential as well as opening their minds to a larger picture
in planning out their future. He helps students with resume
writing, interviewing skills, advising, career advice, and much
more. He has specifically touched many male Latino students and
has a way of gaining their respect immediately. He is a role
model, mentor, and friend to many students who seek his advice.”
Pelaez received a bachelor’s from Middlebury College and is
currently pursuing his master’s degree at U.Mass/Boston.
Ramon Suero, a staff assistant in end-user technical support at
NECC, is a 10-year veteran of the college. He was nominated by his
supervisor Nancy Moran. She lauded Ramon for his hard work and
technical skills. “While always hard working, Ramon went above and
beyond the call of duty this summer. He was given the
responsibility of leading the installation of all the computer
equipment purchased for both the Student Center and the Tech
Center. This was not an easy task as there was well over 200
pieces of equipment to be installed, configured and tested.”
The Employee Recognition Award was started by NECC President David
Hartleb as a way to recognize the many and varied contributions of
the college’s nearly 700 employees. For additional information
