Br. Rene D. Roy, FMS, President of Central Catholic High School
(CCHS) is proud to announce that CCHS has received official
notification from the New England Association of Schools and
Colleges (NEASC; www.neasc.org) of its vote to grant continued
accreditation through 2015.
“The findings of the NEASC are a wonderful affirmation of our
mission and our success in fulfilling this mission in the heart of
Lawrence,” states Br. Rene (mission attached). “I would like to
express my congratulations and appreciation to: the administrative
team, led by Principal David M. DeFillippo; self-study co-chairs,
Vice Principal Jeanne R. Burns and Assistant Principal Doreen A.
Keller; and the entire faculty and staff for the work they have
done to make this process go smoothly and for their efforts each
and every day to fulfill the mission of St. Marcellin Champagnat
and Central Catholic.”
A key component of the NEASC accreditation process is the
self-study, which began at the start of the 2004-2005 academic
year and follows standards set forth by the NEASC’s Commission of
Independent Schools. In the fall, the Commission sent a 12-person
committee of educators for a four-day visit to evaluate the
school. This committee submitted a narrative report with
commendations and recommendations to the Commission (excerpts are
attached). “The Commission commends the school,” notes William M.
Bennett, Director of the Commission, “for the thorough and
obviously collaborative efforts engaged in by the whole school
community in producing such a clear profile of an excellent
mission-based Catholic school community.”
“While we are proud that the NEASC has recognized the school and
faculty for numerous areas of excellence,” states principal David
M. DeFillippo, “Central Catholic continues to work to improve the
educational experience of our students. Through honest
self-assessment combined with the feedback of the visiting team,
we have identified several areas for improvement that will enable
us to better serve our students. The NEASC has made several
recommendations to help us move forward. We have already begun to
act on these recommendations. “
