Merrimack Valley Chamber of Commerce president/CEO Joseph J. Bevilacqua has been elected Chairman of the Board of the North of Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau (NOBCVB) for the year 2006-07.

Under Bevilacqua’s leadership, the NOBCVB will work in conjunction with the Mass Office of Travel and Tourism, seeking to strengthen the economic impact  of tourism and the hospitality industry throughout the 34 cities and towns it represents  from the Greater Lawrence and Haverhill area to Greater Newburyport and Salisbury to Greater Salem and Marblehead and to Greater Gloucester and Rockport, promoting the region’s natural, historic, and recreational opportunities and resources to both domestic and international visitors .

Bevilacqua was elected at NOBCVB’s annual conference and meeting in March. His election follows his leadership as twice elected Chairman of the New England Wide Chambers of Commerce Association; Chairman of the Statewide Massachusetts Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives, Chairman of the Statewide Massachusetts Economic Development Council, etc.  Bevilacqua previously was appointed to the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism steering committee to develop a new statewide strategic plan for Massachusetts tourism.

Bevilacqua, president/CEO of the Merrimack Valley Chamber of Commerce, has led the chamber as its membership has grown from about 400 members in 1992 to well over 1,000 members today, making the Merrimack Valley Chamber the largest, most effective chamber in the Merrimack Valley.

Bevilacqua stated that his election as Chairman of the North of Boston CVB is a direct reflection of the work of the board of directors and membership of the Merrimack Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Bevilacqua stated, “I am honored to have been nominated and elected to lead the NOBCVB, and look forward to continuing and developing collaboration, partnership and achievement within these 34 cities and towns from around the north of Boston region.

Bevilacqua is married to Toni Ann and is the father of two boys, Joseph Louis and Michael Anthony, and is a Haverhill School Committeeman and former Economic Development Director for the City of Haverhill.
